I want play Blu-Ray movies and want to be able to record TV shows. I only have broadcast TV so I don’t have a DVR like many cable customers.
Am I going to need a separate Blu-Ray player, a separate DVD recorder for TV recording, and a separate receiver for surround sound?

Does anyone know anything about DVR or DVD-recorders? We just bought a new tv because of the digital transition as well as a blu-ray player. The problem is that we cannot plug the vcr into the tv. The tv has different “plug-ins” than the cables that the vcr has (audio, video or white, yellow, red, [...]

Will regular DVD players (not HD) be able to play Blue-ray discs? I have a satellite hookup (box has no DVD recording function although box shows HD programming). I also have a basic tv.
The VCR I am looking at does allow for an hdmi connection, and an ATSC tumer, if that matters.
