why cant blue ray dvd players record like normal dvd recorders, as they can play normal dvds. the technology is there. is it another sort of scam to wait so as to give a nother reason later on to buy another in a few years when they bring it out? or are they making [...]

Now if you’re going to say something like “Well, because they’re still working on a copy protection scheme for the USA,” then why wouldn’t they need something like that for the Japan-sold models, too? But if it’s for different reasons, then what are those?

I don’t mean burners for computers; I’m aware those have been available for over a year. I’m talking about stand alone dvd recorders for TVs; like a vcr or current dvd recorders. Component meaning YPbPr, analog high def 720p/1080i, three RCA cables usu. Red, Green, and Blue if I remember right. I’m NOT asking about Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, because those high definition technologies are still establishing themselves. I know that DVDs can only carry 480p.
Also, any receiver/DVD recorder combos out there?

Noticed that they are coming out with the Blue Ray DVD players and recorders now. They are very expensive too.
I own a lot of DVD movies and I am happy with my plain old DVD player and recorder. They work fine and the Blue Rays are not only expensive, but to me a waste of [...]
